Artist Overview

Jackson Tan, Alvin Tan Melvin Chee and William Chan, came together in 1996 to form :phunk (studio). After working on numerous special design projects ranging from print (graphic zines) to t-shirt design, the four decided to take their urban street sensibilities to common platform. The birth of each special design project allows them to move forward, as they explore innovative modes of visual communication with an ever-expanding list supportive industry counterparts from around the globe. Their expansive scope of projects range from graphic design publications to audio-visual graphic installations. Their focus is to employ aesthetic intelligence to effectively communicate a visual idea or emotion. Having realized their ambition to put home-grown creative talent on the global map of recognition, UTOPIA the successful :tranmission project, :phunk remains single-minded in their focus to fuse forward-thinking visual concepts to what they enjoy doing most. As self-admitted information junkies, inspiration comes from everything and anything visual and/ or sub-cultural. The :phunk aesthetic is an amalgamation of their urban street culture to pop-culture to experiments in content development. :phunk has enjoyed numerous award recognitions and editorial coverage in numerous publications for both their experimental and commercial works, including IdN (Hong Kong), 100 Shows, the D&AD (London), XLR8R (San Francisco) Tokion (new york) & etc.
