Overview

Matt Irving, the art director at Element Skateboards, asked me if I would be interested in producing some short films for the "Endangered Series" he was working on. Endangered is an Element program that Matt started to support artists by getting them involved with creation of items for sale through Element. I had already finished a short film on artist Paul Urich, and since Paul Urich was one of the artists selected for Endangered, Matt wanted to use the film to help promote the boards Paul produced which were hand painted and shaped limited edition small cruiser boards....Michael Leon was also an artist selected for the series, so Matt asked me if I would want to produce a short on him as well.

Since Michael lives in LA and I in SF, it was somewhat difficult getting together to film, but were able to meet approx 5 times and I got whatever footage I could... I just tried to create a film that best represents Michael to me. I find Michael to be an amazingly creative hard working person who surrounds himself in an environment that I tried to duplicate in the film through filming style, editing pace, and musical selection. Both Michael and I think I did a good job in doing that, so we are both pleased with how ithe film came off.

About me, I am 28 years old raised on skateboarding and photography. I used to film for skateboard videos (mostly 411) and produced one for a company called FIT. I have worked for the magazines Thrasher and Slap doing layout before getting interested in the web... I do the websites slapmagazine.com, ipath.com, and my personal site fecalface.com which supports the younger artists in San Francisco. I plan on opening the gallery, Low (www.lowgallery.com) in the near future and once the gallery is running smoothly, I plan on focusing my time on filmmaking and photography... basically I like to stay busy and go surfing with my girlfriend Rachel.
